Yarn – Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/8

Notions: 

  • Poly-fil stuffing
  • Scissors
  • Stitch marker
  • Yarn needle
  • 2.75 mm hook

Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • blo – back loops only
  • ch – chain
  • dec – (invisible) decrease
  • flo front loops only
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • hdc-inc – half double crochet increase
  • inc – single crochet increase
  • sc – single crochet
  • slst – slip stitch
  • [x] – total number of stitches per round

Special stitches

  • bo4 – bobble stitch – yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, draw loop back through stitch, yarn over and pull through 2 loops. Repeat this 2 more times until you have 4 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 4 loops. 
  • bo5 – bobble stitch – yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, draw loop back through stitch, yarn over and pull through 2 loops. Repeat this 3 more times until you have 5 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 5 loops. 

Assembly Note

The cauldron is assembled from the bottom up in one piece with the exception of the handles. 

Measurements

2 in. x 2 in. [~5 cm x ~5 cm] if using the prescribed materials.

Alright, Let’s get started!

Cauldron

In black yarn

Rnd 1: Make a magic circle and (sc) x6 [6]

Rnd 2: (inc) x6 [12]

Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x6 [18]

Rnd 4: (sc, inc, sc) x6 [24]

Rnd 5: (5 sc, bo5) x4 [24]

*Note: Be sure to push your bobbles outwards!

Rnd 6: (3 sc, inc) x6 [30]

Rnd 7: (2 sc, inc, 2 sc) x6 [36]

Rnds 8-10: (3 rnds total): sc all around [36]

Rnd 11: (2 sc, dec, 2sc) x6 [30]

Rnd 12: sc all around [30]

Rnd 13: (3 sc, dec) x6 [24]

Rnd 14: (work the whole rnd in the flo) – slst, ch 2 (this counts as your first st), hdc into the same st, 3 hdc, (hdc-inc, 3 hdc) x5, slst into the top of the “ch 2” we made to join the rnd [30]

Cut a short tail and pull the yarn all the way through. Use the invisible finish and weave in the tail. 

Witch’s Brew

Join light green yarn in one of the loops left behind from rnd 14

Rnd 1: (2 sc, dec) x6 [18]

Stuff the piece well.

Rnd 2: sc, dec, bo5, dec, sc, dec, bo4, dec, (sc, dec) x2 [12]

*Note: Again, push the bobbles outwards.

Rnd 3: bo4, sc, (dec) x5 [7]

Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing. Going through the front loops only of the last round, cinch the hole closed and bury the tail.


Cauldron Handles

In black yarn, make two

Step 1: Leave a 6-inch tail and make a slipknot. ch 6. 

Step 2: slst into the first st of the chain. 

Step 3: Fasten off and leave another 6-inch tail. 

Step 4: Center the handles between 2 of the cauldron feet. Sew the handles onto each side of the cauldron, 2 rnds below the brim.

These easy cauldrons would make a great decor piece for your Halloween parties or easily be turned into a fun garland. The possibilities are endless! Happy spooky season!
