I’m thrilled to share this Beatrix Bunny Lovey Crochet Pattern with you and can’t wait to see the adorable creations that you bring to life. Whether you’re a beginner looking to hone your skills or an experienced crocheter seeking a new project, this pattern is sure to bring a smile to your face. So grab your hooks and yarn, and let’s crochet some magic together! Be sure to check out the free YouTube tutorial below!

To provide the perfect backdrop for our beloved bunny, I chose to attach it to a classic granny square blanket. The granny square’s timeless appeal not only adds a touch of nostalgia but also offers ample room for personalization. Experiment with different color combinations and stitch patterns to make each lovey truly unique.

No bunny is complete without its favorite snack! To add an extra dose of whimsy to the design, I included a carrot embellishment. This playful detail not only enhances the overall look but also sparks the imagination, turning the lovey into a prop for endless storytelling adventures.

I had added ad-free, PDF’s of this pattern in my Etsy, Ravelry, and Amigurumi.com shops!

Choosing yarn/Gauge

Obviously, you can use any yarn you would like, you do not need to use the yarn I am using. The beautiful thing about amigurumi is that there is no gauge. As long as you use a corresponding hook, it will be just fine. Keep in mind though, if you change your yarn weight the finished lovey size and amounts of yarn used with differ.

I love using all kinds of yarn. When choosing yarn for amigurumi, make sure you choose a yarn with some structure. If you use too fine or flimsy of yarn, the animal will lose shape when being stuffed, or over time.

The first step in choosing yarn for amigurumi is considering the fiber content. While you can technically use any yarn for amigurumi, certain fibers work better than others. Acrylic yarn is a popular choice for its affordability, durability, and wide range of colors. Cotton yarn is another excellent option, offering a soft yet sturdy texture that’s perfect for creating huggable toys. My favorite yarn, and “signature yarn” is Scheepjes Stonewashed which is a cotton/acrylic blend.

When choosing yarn for amigurumi intended for children or pets, it’s important to prioritize safety. Avoid yarns with loose fibers or embellishments that could pose a choking hazard. Opt for yarns that are certified non-toxic and meet safety standards for use in children’s toys.

I know that Worsted Weight(Weight 4) is a very popular weight for crocheting. If you choose this weight of yarn, the amount of yarn used will be different than what is listed in the pattern. This will also result in quite a larger blanket size and bunny. That isn’t a bad thing, just something to note when choosing yarn.

Ultimately, the best way to choose yarn for amigurumi is to experiment and have fun! Don’t be afraid to mix and match different fibers, weights, and textures to achieve the perfect look for your project. Crocheting amigurumi is a creative and playful process, so let your imagination run wild and enjoy the journey of bringing your favorite characters to life!

Also, something to note. If you want a thicker yarn, but love the look of the Stonewashed yarn that I use. It does come in an XL size, with all the same colors. The Stonewashed XL is listed as Aran weight. Keep in mind your yarn weights will change with this yarn as well.
