Munches the Bear Crochet-A-Long (Main Info Page)

That’s right friends! Its Munches time! I have been wanting to explore the world of “crochet-a-longs” since I started writing my own patterns. When I put the word out to my Instagram followers, I was shocked at the response! I am so grateful that you want to crochet with me! I have put my nerves aside, and am stepping outside of my comfort zone. So bear with me (pun intended) and together, we will have so much fun!

In this post I will be explaining the break down of the CAL, the dates and all the materials/info you will need to make your own Munches the Bear.

Don’t forget to use the hashtag #MunchesCAL

Dates to Remember

July 19th – Week 1: Let’s get started! We will be making the legs, arms and ears!

July 26th – Week 2: Making and embroidering the snout. Starting the body and adding the limbs.

August 2nd – Week 3: Making the bow-tie. Finishing the bear’s head, adding safety eyes and facial indents. Sewing on snout, ears and bow-tie.

August 9th – Crochet-A-Long Giveaway! One person who actively participates in the Munches CAL will be selected to win a project bag full of some of my favorite go-to goodies! Contents TBA.

Materials

  • 2.75mm crochet hook
  • Stitch marker
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle
  • Yarn – more details below
  • Polyfill, or your choice of stuffing
  • 10 mm safety eyes
  • Brown yarn for embroidering nose and adding facial indents.

Choosing Yarn

I love using all kinds of yarn. When choosing yarn for amigurumi, make sure you choose yarn with some structure. If you use too fine or flimsy of a yarn, the animal will lose shape when being stuffed, or over time. I use a 2.75mm hook for all my amigurumi, up to worsted weight. The smaller hook helps to maintain an even stitches without having to change tension, which puts strain on your hands. Let the hook do all the work for you!

For this example I am using Scheepjes Stonewashed in Smokey Quartz, Yellow Jasper, Axinite and one full 50g skein of Boulder Opal

Velvet Info

If you are making a velvet version of Munches using Bernat Velvet, I would recommend a 3.75mm/4mm hook depending on your tension. You will also need to increase your safety eyes to 15mm. Making a magic ring can be a little fiddly with velvet yarn. To omit magic ring: Ch2, work 6 sc into first stitch.

Sizes

When Munches the Bear is made using Scheepjes, he is approximately 10 inches from top of head to the bottom of the feet. Aran weight Bear will be slightly larger, at 11 inches. You may want to increase your safety eyes to 12mm, and your hook size to 3mm depending on your tension. Larger, velvet Munches is approximately 17 inches from top of the head to the bottom of the feet.

Wrapping up

When this CAL is completed, you will have a finished Munches the Bear and hopefully some new tips and tricks under your belt, as well as some new yarny friends!

If you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to email me here or contact me via Instagram. I am here to help you!

There is a giveaway happening at the end of the CAL so make sure to be active and post all the photos you can of your Munches! You don’t want to miss out!
