Apricot & Jelly CAL Part Three


Welcome to Part Three of Apricot & Jelly CAL! I would just like to take a moment and tell you how humbled and grateful I am for all of you talented friends who have been joining me in this crochet along. The amount of adorable foxes and snails that I have seen this last week is truly incredible!

I do recommend you know basic stitches and terminology before tackling this project. To help you keep track of your rounds, please reference the written pattern below, while working. Pause and replay the video as needed.

Reference the written pattern below, while working. I work quickly, so remember to pause and replay the video as needed. The video is here for pattern support.

Mushroom

The mushroom is made in two parts using Stonewashed sport weight. The stem of the mushroom is added to the top, as we crochet.

Stem

Using Moonstone a 2.75mm hook.

Rnd 1: 5sc in a MR (5)

Rnd 2: inc x 5 (10)

Rnd 3: [sc, inc] x 5 (15)

Rnd 4: sc in each st through BLO (15)

Rnd 5: sc in each st (15)

Rnd 6: [3sc, dec] x 3 (12)

Rnd 7-14: sc in each st (12)

Rnd 15: inc x 12 through BLO (24)

Rnd 16: [3hdc, hdcinc] x 6 (30)

Sl st into the next st to FO and cut yarn. Sew in ends. Stuff lightly.

Mushroom top

Using Red Jasper and a 2.75mm hook

Rnd 1: 6sc in a MR (6)

Rnd 2: inc x 6 (12)

Rnd 3: [3sc, inc] x 3 (15)

Rnd 4: [4sc, inc] x 3 (18)

Rnd 5: sc in each st (18)

Rnd 6: [2sc, inc] x 6 (24)

Rnd 7: [3sc, inc] x 6 (30)

Rnd 8: Adding the stem, hold the pieces with the wrong sides facing each other. Work through both pieces.

Stuff the top of the mushroom very lightly.

Rnd 9: [5sc, inc] x 6 (42)

Rnd 10: sc in each st (42)

Sl st into the next st to FO and cut yarn. Sew in end.

Embroider the white spots. Hide ends inside of the mushroom.

Apricot is made using Stonewashed XL. We will be starting at the bottom, we add the limbs and tail as we crochet.

Apricot body

Starting with Morganite and a 3.25mm hook.

Rnd 1: 6sc in a MR

Rnd 2: inc x 6 (12)

Rnd 3: [sc, inc] x 6 (18)

Rnd 4: [2sc, inc] x 6 (24)

Rnd 5: [3sc, inc] x 6 (30)

Rnd 6: Attaching the legs and tail. 4sc through the leg and next 4 st of the body, 4sc, 4sc through the 2nd leg and next 4 st of the body, 7sc, 3sc through tail and body, 8sc (30)

Rnd 7: [4sc, inc] x 6 (36)

Rnd 8-12: sc in each st (36)

Rnd 13: [dec, sc] x 6, 18sc (30)

Rnd 14: [4sc, dec, 4sc] x 3 (27)

Rnd 15: [7sc, dec] x 3 (24)

Rnd 16: [3sc, dec, 3sc] x 3 (21)

Rnd 17: sc in each st (21)

Rnd 18: [5sc, dec] x 3 (18)

Rnd 19: sc in each st (18)

Rnd 20: [4sc, dec] x 3 (15)

Start stuffing the fox firmly, continue stuffing until the last round.

Rnd 21: Attaching the arms.14sc, sc through the first arm and next stitch of the body, place stitch marker (15)

Rnd 22: 3sc through arm and next 3 sts of the body, 4sc, 4sc through the 2nd arm and next 4 sts of the body, 4sc (15)

You may need to change the position of the arms, there should be 4sc centered on the body between the arms.

Rnd 23: 11sc, dec, 2sc (14)

Sl st into the next st to FO and cut yarn. Leave a long tail for sewing to the head.

Assembly/Finishing Touches

Use straight pins to keep the pieces in place while you sew.

Sew the head to the body over rnds 12-16. The Moonstone colorwork from rnd 11 should be showing, and line up with the front of the body. Use this rnd as a guide for sewing. Add any extra stuffing needed before closing.

Sew Jelly to the top of the mushroom.
